The year was just a few days old when Paddy Rodgers and Euronav revealed they had cancelled Christmas to snap up a fleet of 15 Maersk Tankers' VLCCs from under the nose of Peter Georgiopoulos. It marked the start of a consolidation effort that set the owner on course for Wall Street with the goal of building a 100 strong tanker fleet.
