The state of Alaska has awarded a $5.47m car ferry upgrade contract to Todd Shipyards.
The yard will begin work on the 7,300–gt Taku (built 1963) in January 2007 on behalf of operator Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS), with the ship handed back in June.
The overhaul will include removal and replacement of shafts, hubs, blades and all ancillary equipment related to the propulsion system.
