US shipowner International Shipholding Corporation (ISC) has lost its battle to stay in the hurricane-scarred city of New Orleans and is upping sticks to Alabama.

ISC is set to shift both its corporate headquarters and railway operations to Mobile, leaving behind just 50 staff in New Orleans, the company's birthplace and home for over fifty years.

The company said it was forced into the decision due to the ‘uncertain future’ of the Mississippi River Gulf outlet (MRGO).
