The Alaska state ferry owner is facing a pay headache after workers rejected a new deal.

Alaska Marine Highway Ferry System had offered a one-year contract with a 3% wage rise.

But the Inlandboatmen's Union of the Pacific said workers had voted against the offer and will return to the negotiating table next month.

The union represents unlicensed crew members, including deck hands and cabin stewards.
