New Zealand’s Interislander ferry Arahura (built 1983) is set for an NZD 9m ($7.21m) refit in Singapore.



The 13,600-gt vessel will return to New Zealand at the end of August from the unnamed yard, having been upgraded to carry more vehicles and rail freight across the Cook strait, the owner said.

The work would include changes to the lower decks and reduction of some upper deck accommodation, allowing the ferry to continue to carry passengers beyond 2011, Interislander group general manager Seamus O'Sullivan told local media.
