The merger between AP Moller-Maersk and Royal P&O Nedlloyd is being scrutinised by the South African competition authorities.
The Danish daily Boersen cited Lizel Blignaut, head of the country's merger and acquisition control body as saying it was too early for it to comment on what the merger would mean for competition in the shipping industry.
“But what I can say is that the two parties' combined market share is comparatively high, and we are closely looking into the matter,” Blignaut added.
