Fruit exporters in South Africa have lodged a complaint with European competition authorities over AP Moller-Maersk’s takeover of P&O Nedlloyd.
They fear the companies' combined container market share of 60% between South Africa and Europe and 77% of refrigerated trade will push up freight rates, according to Business Day.
Maersk is hoping to seize control of Nedlloyd for EUR 2.3bn ($2.8bn).
Exporters like Capespan believe the merged company will only have one competitor, Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC).
