Turku has the largest drydock in the Baltic. It is 265 metres long and 70m wide.

The group’s existing ship repair subsidiaries in Tallinn and Klaipeda repair 165 and 130 vessels per year respectively, while Turku handles 80 to 100 ships, the Estonian company said.

Turku's major clients include Neste Shipping, Tallink, Silja and Viking Lines, plus icebreakers owned by the Finnish state.

BLRT fought off five other companies to buy the facility for an undisclosed sum.

It said no changes to the workforce were planned.
