A bulker master's failure to have engines ready when an anchor chain broke has been identified as the cause of its smashing into a US sugar dock.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said that on 25 March last year the 81,000-dwt Star of Abu Dhabi (built 2009) was anchored using two anchors on the Lower Mississippi River near Gramercy, Louisiana.
