Thoresen in mood for dry bulk buys

Thoresen Shipping is being rumoured, after returning to profit, to be lining up another bulker acquisition on top of a purchase it confirmed this week.

Strong suggestions in broking circles at the time of TradeWinds going to press pointed to Thoresen Shipping, the Singapore-based arm of Bangkok’s Thoresen Thai Agencies, being in the process of buying Santoku Senpaku’s 58,800-dwt bulker Crystal Palace (built 2008).

The company is said to be paying $13.4m for the Tsuneishi Cebu-built geared vessel.

The Crystal Palace rumours come hard on the heels of Thoresen’s announcement that it had acquired the Oshima-built, 54,170-dwt Karaweik (built 2006) for $7.9m.

Chalermchai Mahagitsiri, chief executive of Thoresen Thai Agencies, could not be reached for confirmation of the Crystal Palace purchase.
