Safe Bulkers has exercised its options to acquire two ships that were part of a sale-and-leaseback deal signed two years ago.
The Greek bulker owner is paying $43.8m for the 81,600-dwt Pedhoulas Builder and Pedhoulas Fighter (both built 2012).
Both ships were sold to a financial institution in 2015 and were chartered back to Safe Bulkers for 10 years at a daily rate of $6,500.
