Owners who bought bulkers in the first half of last year when values bottomed out are now benefiting strongly from the mini-boom.
By Wednesday, capesize spot rates stood at $17,000 per day. A year ago, the figure was $6,500 per day.
The upturn is being followed by more period market activity.
