Major shipowners are locking capesizes into period contracts in a rising market.

Greek owner Golden Union and Mizuho Sangyo of Japan have secured employment as the market enjoys some late summer heat.

Golden Union’s 179,000-dwt Cape Providence (built 2009) has been taken by a Chinese charterer at $17,000 per day over five to seven months, the Baltic Exchange says.

Rio Tinto has tied up Mizuho Sangyo’s 181,000-dwt Mount Dampier (built 2011) for 11 to 13 months at $15,500 per day.
