Zodiac Maritime has secured a strong rate for a one-year capesize charter as period levels rose despite recent dips in the spot market.

UK-based Zodiac achieved $19,750 per day for the charter of the 185,000-dwt Cape Eagle (built 2012) from trader Louis Dreyfus, according to the Baltic Exchange. The deal is likely to be profitable for the London shipowner, which bought the ship at the bottom of the market in March 2016 for what was probably $26m to $27m.
