Russian shipbuilders have unveiled plans to build unmanned vessels as Russia draws up new rules on remote-controlled shipping.

At the Marinet conference at SMM in Germany, Alexei Donskoy, general director of the Engineering Center of Shipbuilding (ECS), said it is working with Air & Marine Electronics (AME) to create an autonomous vessel.

It plans to launch pilot projects to test remote navigation and control systems this year and in 2019, focusing on a river-sea bulker, a small tanker, and finally a ferry and an icebreaker.
