Shipbrokers say the diversified German operator fixed out the 180,000-dwt Rio Montevideo and Rio Manaus (both built 2012) each for a year at a rate of $9,000 per day.
With a daily price tag that is almost two times higher than the current spot market average sources say the fixture reflects heightened demand for young tonnage but note the level is still at or below the typical operating cost attached to most modern capes.
