Market sources claim the US commodity trader has inked a letter of intent that calls for the construction of three newbuildings at a cost of around $46m to $47m a piece.
Sale-and-purchase brokers say the deal could double if Cargill indulges in options and note the reported price tag is in line with what Frontline 2012 is believed to be paying to build a series of 181,000-dwt bulkers at the same shipyard for delivery in 2014 and 2015.
