In a statement the Monaco and Manhattan-based IPO hopeful said the vessels will cost approximately $157m in total.

Three of the 82,000-dwt resales, which are on order at Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, are scheduled for delivery in 2015 and the other two are due in 2016.

TradeWinds first broke news about the transaction late Wednesday evening.

Today, Scorpio Bulkers indicated it has contracted to purchase 52 newbuildings to date. The total includes 28 ultramaxes, 21 kamsarmaxes and three capesizes.

The vessels, which are under construction at shipyards in Japan, China and Romania, are scheduled to start hitting the water next year.
