Shanghai Erli International Ship Management claims its 63,500-dwt Aeriko (built 2013) is one of the vessels which has been held.
Chen Dusong, chief executive of the company, told a Chinese newspaper the bulker was one of at least 10 Chinese ships in the area which has been detained.
He did not identify any of the other vessels involved, but did claim authorities were demanding $300,000 for their release, Bloomberg reports.
