DNVGL says significant improvements have been achieved in the design of morefuel-efficient ships in recent years.
However,questions have been raised about variations in performance and researchhas now shown a wide variation in what should otherwise be identical ships.
“Wehave compiled data that shows that there is a large variation in fuelconsumption between ships of the same design,” says Michael Aasland, business directorfor bulk carriers at DNV GL - Maritime.
