Reports in The WestAustralian newspaper say PHPA has been considering new terminals at FinucaneIsland and Lumsden Point.
Theplans could lift Port Hedland iron ore exports well above the theoretical 500mtpaexport cap set by the limitations of the shipping channel.
Plans include an option to build up to eight berths off Finucane Island,next to BHP’s mothballed $20bn outer-harbour development.
However,analysts say the idea would be expensive because it would require channeldredging and construction of a long jetty.
