Cyclone Ita is due to makelandfall on Friday and has been described as the strongest storm since severe tropical cyclone Yasi hit in 2011.

The system is forecastto come ashore near Cape Melville, about 1,700km northwest of the state’scapital of Brisbane.

The Australia Bureau of Meteorology (ABM) has classified Ita asa severe category four storm with very destructive winds.

When Yasi hit Australia it was a category five storm andended up flooded several coal mines belonging to BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto Group.
