The world’slargest LNG buyer imported 87.7mt of the fuel in the year to March 2014, up 1% fromthe previous high a year ago.
The jump in imports has been caused by Japan’sshutdown of nuclear stations in the wake of the Fukushima disaster in 2011.
Importsof thermal coal into Japan rose 5% last year to 111.5mt and also exceeded the previousrecord of 106.2mt
