In a statement the New York-quoted operator said it fixed the 74,400-dwt Coronis(built 2006) to Oberon Holdings for up to 14 months.

The company indicated the vessel commanded a day rate of $11,550, less a 5% commission paid to third parties for a minimum of 11 months in a deal that commences in early June.

“This employment is anticipated to generate approximately $3.8m of gross revenue for the minimum scheduled period of the charter,” Diana added in Friday’s announcement.

Previously the Coronis was earning $10,600 per day in a contract with EDF Trading Limited of the UK, according to a fleet profile found on the operator’s website. When the charterer first hired the ship two years ago panamax rates were around $6,700.

Today, panamaxes trading in the spot market were seeing day rates of around $8,000 on average while tonnage seeking period contracts with durations of a year experienced daily levels of approximately $12,500, according to Compass Maritime Services.
