A rise in capesize earnings has lifted the Baltic Dry Index (BDI) back above 1,000 points today.

Spot rates for the bulkers climbed for an eighth successive session to reach $15,500 per day on Tuesday.

It leaves capesize earnings up by over 30% in the last week, according to Global Hunter Securities.

While rates in other sub-sectors have crawled further into their respective troughs, the improvement in capesizes lifted the BDI to 1,004 points today.
