Classic deal for Lemos cape

George Economou’s Classic Maritime has tied up a CM Lemos-owned capesize bulker on a period contract.

Classic has taken the 180,300-dwt Heroic (built 2010) on an 11 to 14 month deal, the Baltic Exchange reports.

It is suggested the contract is worth $18,750 daily.

The vessel is one of two capes in the 13-strong fleet of CM Lemos company Nereus Shipping.

The fixture comes on a second day of falls for the Baltic Capesize Index and during a week in which Fearnleys described the capesize market as being “dull and without direction”.

“Cargo volumes, coal in particular, presently [are] not sufficient to employ a growing fleet,” it said in its weekly report.
