Oslo-listed Western Bulk has 22 modern Japanese built bulkers on its books, of which 15 remain to be delivered.

Jens Ismar, chief executive of the Norwegian owner, told TradeWinds: “Some have made the argument that Chinese ships are equal to or better than the Japanese vessels. We think that is wrong.”

In its second quarter earnings presentation, Western Bulk said Japanese-built ultramaxes outperformed others by two to five tons per day.

At
