Inspections jumped to 2.56 million metric tonnes in the week ending 2 October, a 32% increase on the prior week and a 16% jump on the same week of 2013, according to the agency’s weekly Grain Transportation Report.

USDA inspections are a key measure of pending export shipments because they are required for every outgoing grain cargo. This time of year, US grain exports are a key seasonal cargo for bulkers up to panamax in size.
