The Australian Institute of Marine & Power Engineers (AIMPE) gave notice that workers will stop for four hours on 12 November.
The action will be taken by members employed as marine engineers by Teekay Shipping (Australia) Pty, which is contracted by BHP Billiton to run the tugs at the port.
The union called off an intended strike in August after it did not serve the notice within the required period and balloted members again to get fresh approval for industrial action.
