An eleventh-hour intervention by Australia’s Fair Work Commission saw the strike over pay and conditions put on hold.

The planned four hour stoppage at the world’s largest iron ore export facility has been delayed by one week after the commission acted upon an application by tug operator Teekay Shipping.

The engineers, represented by the Australian Institute of Marine and Power Engineers (AIMPE), will now vote by 17 November on a proposed enterprise agreement put forward by Teekay.
