The world’s largest marine coal export terminal acts as an export facility for Australia’s biggest coal companies, such as BHP Billiton, Glencore and Rio Tinto.

“As soon as the port reopens, operations will be back to normal,” said Chris Ford, a spokesman for terminal operator Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group (NCIG).

The port said a number of outbound vessel movements were planned Thursday afternoon, subject to final assessment of each movement by the Newcastle harbour master.
