Helix Energy Solutions said its well-intervention vessels achieved 100% utilisation in the North Sea, helping keep its second-quarter loss within analyst expectations.

The Houston offshore contractor trimmed its loss to $6.4m during the quarter, down from $10.7m a year earlier, as the 131-metre-long Well Enhancer (built 2009) and 111-metre-long Seawell (built 1987) experienced a rebound in a battered market.

By contrast, the vessels had 57% utilisation in the prior quarter and 49% in the second quarter of 2016, said chief executive Owen Kratz.
