Aegean Marine Petroleum Network saw its shares leap Friday even though the New York bunkers supplier reported a deeper-than-expected slump in quarterly profits.

The company's share price rocketed 22.4% to reach  $5.20 in late trading on the New York Stock Exchange, adding $34.6m in market capitalisation in one day.

The move followed an earnings report that showed second-quarter profit of $1.7m,
