Shipping research king-pin Riaz Khan is leaving the lender next month, it revealed today.

Khan is exiting only a week after it emerged Dagfinn Lunde, the bank’s shipping boss, will retire at the end of this year.

It is not clear if Khan will enter the payroll elsewhere or focus on his own company, Tavlon Commercial Enterprises.

Khan, who shuns the limelight some of his peers have enjoyed, set up DVB’s research department 12 years ago.

In addition to his role as managing director of research and strategic planning at DVB, Khan sat as a voting member of the bank’s shipping investment fund SIIM.

It has more than 80 vessels worth a collective $1.1bn in its fleet.

“We at DVB Bank deeply appreciate the benefits brought by Riaz’ ability to dove-tail his own industry experience with the Bank’s lending activities in Shipping Finance,” a statement read.

“DVB will continue to benefit from the solid base that Riaz has built to steer our way through a highly-cyclical, and currently volatile, shipping marketplace.”
