Kang Duk-soo appeared at the Seoul central district prosecutors' office on Friday as a suspect in the corruption case, the Yonhap news agency reported.
"I apologize for causing worry to the people, and I will sincerely respond to the investigation," the tycoon told reporters.
Kang is facing accusations of diverting the funds of STX Heavy Industries to illegally support other ailing affiliates, inflicting losses of nearly KRW 300bn ($280m) on the group, prosecutors said.
