The Estonian ferry operator logged a net loss of EUR 23.4m ($32.1m) during the period, which was 33.4% deeper than the first quarter of 2013.

The company blamed its descent deeper into the red partly on the upgrades and maintenance on the 2,850-passenger Silja Serenade (built 1990).

The ship was out of operations for 40 days of January and February before it began to ply the Stockholm-to-Helsinki route with a 50% expansion of shopping areas.
