Balyasny has amassed a stake in the Nasdaq-listed owner worth north of $280m which is controlled by Balyasny Asset Management and a number of his other funds.
The 4,695,374 Golar shares collectively held by the funds give Balyasny a 5.12% slice of the shipowner, which last week completed a $700m equity issue.
Balyasny, formerly an investor in Baltic Trading, today holds shares in companies ranging from Scorpio Bulkers and Ardmore Shipping to Harley Davidson, Apple and Facebook.
