Trading vessels could find themselves in the middle of a dispute between sellers and buyers, following the embargo imposed by Russia on food imports from the EU, US, Australia, Canada and Norway, a leading law firm says.

The order issued by Russian president, Vladimir Putin, will affect shipments of meat, fruit and milk.

It is not yet known how the Russian authorities will deal with affected imports but a free on board (FOB) buyer with his nominated vessel en route would seek to rely on any force majeure provision in his sale contract.
