Economou now controls 115,967,177 DryShips shares, a stake which is worth $161.19m today.
In an SEC filing, Economou’s enlarged position after the equity issue designed to plug a shortfall on a convertible bond is revealed to be 16.9%.
This is up from the 13.3% he was revealed to have held in May this year.
Economou’s contribution to the fundraiser came via investment company Sphinx, which bought 57,142,000 of the 250,000,000 new shares which were printed.
