LMB Bulk Chartering aims to combine Lightship’s spot strength with Maersk Broker’s clout in the period market, a statement said.
The venture will boast a team of 80 brokers working in both the Atlantic, where Lightship has a better foothold, and the Pacific where Maersk Broker has a better presence in Asia.
The move by Maersk Broker comes only a few weeks after it admitted it was reviewing strategic moves in the wake of the mergers and acquisitions seen in the shipbroking world this year.
