The bank now has control of the 43,685,197 shares previously owned by Vardinoyannis family-backed Sea Star, representing a 23.6% stake.
Before the transaction, Piraeus Bank had a small slice of 1% in Anek.
Sea Star’s shares were pledged to the bank, which decided to revoke the loan and take control of the stock.
According to data from the Athens Stock Exchange, the Vardinoyannis family is still a big shareholder in Anek as Amalia Vardinoyanni was in control of 25% of the company as of 15 December.
