The company plans to offer 12.8m shares in the US-listed entity with a further 1.92m on offer to the underwriters.

Capital’s shares closed at $9.92 last night meaning the share sale could possibly raise around $145m before costs.

The master limited partnership (MLP) said its sponsor Capital Maritime & Trading Corp would buy 1.1m of the shares on offer.

Capital said it intends to use the net proceeds to prepay the quarterly amortization installments scheduled for 2016 and the first quarter of 2017 under its 2007, 2008 and 2011 credit facilities.
