The Round Table (RT) group comprising Bimco, ICS, Intercargo and Intertanko is developing standards and guidelines to address any vulnerability.
With the cyber security topic becoming more and more important throughout the shipping world, from owners to insurers, the RT said it is in the final phase of developing a pattern for the maintenance and updating of electronic systems.
It added that all major systems on a modern ship (such as the main engine, steering and navigation systems and the ballast water and cargo handling equipment) are controlled and monitored by software.
