The contractor consortium widening the Panama Canal has won a $17.5m award as part of its battle with the waterway’s administrator over the project’s mounting costs.

The decision by the Dispute Adjudication Board of the International Chamber of Commerce only gives Grupo Unidos por el Canal (GUPC) a portion of the $45.1m claim it sought.

The claim was one of several lodged by the Sacyr-led contractor against the Panama Canal Administration (ACP)  seeking cost overruns in the delayed project.
