Lower charter rates have resulted in a wider loss for Malaysian Bulk Carriers (MBC) in the first quarter of 2016.

The bulker and tanker owner said net deficit from January to March was MYR 24.1m ($5.8m), versus MYR 22.7m a year earlier.

Although the company’s tankers contributed earnings of MYR 7m - up from MYR 2m - the dire dry market took a toll on the company’s final result.
