The big three Korean shipbuilders could lose out on government aid unless unions agree to restructuring plans.

The Korea Times said on Friday that the state plans to spend KRW 750bn ($650m) to stop redundancies at more than 7,800 companies associated with shipbuilding.

But union opposition to lay-offs and downsizing at Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) and DSME may jeopardise their involvement.
