Norway’s Fred Olsen Energy has won a three-year charter contract for one of its semi-submersible drilling rigs.

Statoil has chartered the 108.2 metre-long Bideford Dolphin (built 1975) in a contract worth $421m, according to an announcement published today.
The Norwegian oil major has until 1 November 2010 to exercise an option to extend the charter for an additional 12 months, which would bring the value of the deal to $553m.
The contract is expected to start in the first quarter of 2011, when the vessel will begin work on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.
