At a recent presentation on fuelling choices to meet the International Maritime Organization (IMO)’s new sulphur restrictions, a Greek shipowner ran through the reasons why his company had opted to build its next round of tankers “scrubber-ready” as opposed to constructing them to use LNG as a fuel.

For an owner of vessels with no set trading pattern, the clarity on the decision around making LNG available as a fuel and the alternatives to it was not there, he said.
