A floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) owned by Golar LNG is being linked to a project in Jamaica to supply new gas-fired power plants.

Those following the business say the 125,000-cbm Golar Freeze (built 1977) has been committed to serve a project being developed by rapidly expanding Florida-based outfit New Fortress Energy (NFE).

They say a rate of about $60,000 per day has been agreed; if confirmed, this could set a new benchmark as one of the first existing FSRUs to be relet after its original long-term charter.
