Norwegian oil giant Statoil has homed in on Belgium’s Exmar as its preferred candidate for a long-term charter that would back up to two VLGC newbuildings.

The ships are expected to cost around $73m each and Jiangnan Shipyard has been tipped for the business.

It is unclear whether the deal includes LPG fuelling for the vessels, which Statoil had been considering.
